textile
I recently started using textiles as a medium to make my art work because the process is meditative. Who am I kidding? I hoard stuff, have a lot of houseplants, and I’m running out of space, but I still want to make artworks, so this is easier to store.
My first textile work, called Balance Forward (2020) is an homage to all the birdwatchers, present and future. I have a whole story about it here.
Finding Rest and Joy (2022) is my second textile work. It really is unfinished, but let’s face it: I’m not going to work on it anymore so its unfinished state is the finished state. A pair of rollerskates is stitched on a pillowcase with batik fabric deconstructed and appliqued all over. I stitched the words, “Sorry I did not finish. I took a nap”. Here’s some process photos and some more ramblings about it.
My third textile work is a self portrait for a collaborative installation, Sending Love (2022), with Maggie Yee, Manon Wada and Reiko Fujii. More process and writings here .
This is Nina (2022). I wrote more about it here.
I stitched leaves together to make a blanket for my cat. Not really. This is just an experiment I’m doing and Pebbles is used to scale the stitched poplar leaves from the trees at work (2022).
