day 1. In 1979 one of my sisters @tinad05 rollerskated around Monas in Jakarta in an event. I was too young and hadn’t learned to skate and this deteriorating photo was the only one I could find of of her in her skates and her yellow track suit, both of which I wish I had. You can only see her skates and her track pants on this photo.
Then when we got to the US in 1980s we stopped doing all kinds of fun stuff. At 13 I became a (lousy) waitress at a restaurant my parents bought called Rusty’s BBQ a Texas style BBQ (another story where I learned I have terrible customer service skills).
Anyway. Back to the skates. In 2012 I bought a pair of skates and tried and failed miserably to learn on my own. I think not knowing where to practice was a big hindrance.
In 2018 someone told me I could take a lesson at Church of 8 Wheels. They offered only one kind of lesson. The rest was just a matter of practice, they assured me. It was hard to prioritize it
In 2021, it is time. I need to prioritize it bc it is getting harder to recover from a fall the older I get. (E.g. my tailbone was really sore for 2 days after I fell a few days ago.) I intend to be a proficient skater when I turn 50 one day god help me.
Despite appearances in the video posted this is not my 1st, 2nd or even 10th time on these skates, but I’m a slow learner and I am clumsy. This teeny, tiny garage is not where I normally practice but I can get a video with lights whereas it is too dark to take a video in the parking lot where I normally practice. Please Jesus Mary Joseph give me strength to attain this goal and not let it go unfinished like almost everything I ever do.
