Ode to Minamata

I have the good fortune to train with OnenessButoh dance group for over a year now. I’m still very much a novice, so I am a bundle of a lot of emotions, but mostly so humbled to be preparing and participating in a performance, Umi,  with such a seasoned and talented group of dancers and artistic director, Judith Kajiwara in OnenessButoh and mindblowing Taiko musicians of Rain Ensemble, led by artistic director Kallan Nishimoto.

In Umi, OnenessButoh will be presenting  Ode to Minamata,  which comprises of new vignettes that pays tribute to the victims of an industrial disaster that happened in Minamata in 1950s, but of those who are still alive, they are still living with the nerve damage from the disease that the disaster caused. This is also a story about the ocean, about the people who suffered the diseases, about hope and resiliency.

Our performance will be at:

Douglas Morrisson Theater, 22311 N. 3rd St., Hayward, CA 94546

Saturday, March 23, 2018 at 7:30 PM

Sunday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM.

The theater is located next to a Japanese garden which would be a lovely place to stroll through before the show on a Sunday afternoon. (Their hours are  8 am – 4 pm daily)
