I always underestimate how long it takes to install art. I think 4 hrs is enough, but actually more like 8. Part of it is because I am particular. Part of it is because each place I exhibit, the situation is different; the layout is different, the parameters are different, so I want to be flexible about how to install them. A lot of people want to help, too, but I also find that I prefer to work mostly solo when installing my art. Too many cooks in the kitchen, and in my art, I’m the only chef allowed. I will solicit advice if I am unsure, but I really prefer to be left alone and going through my process alone. If they trust me on the ladder, I would also prefer to do this myself, but I lost balance and fell off standing on a chair today, so understandably I ended up with help. He was very patient and helpful, and I am grateful for his help. Thank you, Larry Tom!
Opening Reception is Saturday May 12, 2-5 pm, J-Sei, 1285 66th St., Emeryville, CA.
