If there is anything I’m ever good at, it’s persistence: the commitment of making the same mistakes over and over. Maybe if I do it enough I’ll learn someday. Sometimes I do it even knowing there is a better way of doing it. Stop using recycled wood, for one. This wood had cracks and even on my first chisel, it already cracked, but I was committed and continued to use it as if it was brand new. I use recycled wood because it takes so long to grow trees for lumber and I hate the idea of wasting it. I also like how it has weathered and that it had character. However, all that aside, it was a challenge. I’m going to modify it so it will work. Next time I will be more discriminatory of the wood I use, but for now this experience has taught me a lot. I’m not here to make anything perfect. I’m here to make mistakes and learn from them.
