This is a new project I am embarking that is something completely different than anything I have done before. Just the decision to make this was transformative because it meant I had to make drastic changes (by my standards) to my life. The result of this will be in an exhibit called A Place of Her Own at SOMArts in San Francisco, CA. I will be showing my artwork along with those of 19 other artists starting on November 19, 2015. We have all had to answer: if you had a place of your own, what would it be? I have participated in this exhibit multiple times, but I still have difficulties in answering the question.
- This is my Japanese woodworking instructor, Jay van Arsdale, who gave me bamboo from his yard, and also taught me to how to split bamboo.
- These are the bamboo. As I did not know exactly how much or what I needed, I gathered a variety of different kinds of bamboo, testing them out for suitability.
- Here is me getting ready to split the bamboo in my garage. The carpet is there to protect the blade in case I hit the chisel so hard it lands on the concrete floor.
